Ridley Scott’s ‘Prometheus’ Sequel May Tie Into ‘Alien’ After All

It’s hard to think of Ridley Scott’s career and not instantly think of Alien. The 1970s sci-fi horror movie was one of the first films to put the director on the map, and still is hailed today as a hallmark in cinema history. The atmospheric film not only showed Scott’s promise as a filmmaker, but also introduced one of the best creatures in all of film, as well as being one of the first movies to feature a female lead being the last one standing out of a mostly-male cast. However, when Scott’s Prometheus came out in 2012, the film somehow felt short of the fans’ expectations, as many were hoping that the film would not only be a welcome to return to the sci-fi genre for the director, but would put the Alien franchise back to its original heights. Unfortunately the movie was short on a large number of Alien connections, and the ones that were made mostly left the audience members scratching their heads. With production on Promtheus 2 set to begin next year, and Scott in the midst of promoting The Martian, the filmmaker has predictably been fielding questions about the sequel project, and how it might tie into not only the past Alien movies this time, but how it might also affect Neill Blomkamp’s Alien 5. While speaking with the German publication, Filmfutter (translated by The Guardian), Scott recently revealed that the Prometheus films will tie into the Alien franchise… eventually. Read his full quote below:

“The whole point is to explain the Alien franchise and how and why the creation of the aliens. I always thought of the Alien as kind of a piece of bacterial warfare. I always thought that that original ship, which I call the Croissant, was a battleship, holding these biomechanoid creatures that were all about destruction.”

When asked further if Prometheus will directly tie into Alien, Scott replied with the following:

“Yes, but it will not be the next one. It will be in the one after this one or maybe even a fourth film before we get back into the Alien franchise.”

So even though there was that small Xenomorph tease at the end of the first Prometheus, it looks like fans are going to have to wait longer than they may want for more tie-ins between the two franchises. Considering some of the recent remarks from cast members, as well as the themes in the original iterations of Prometheus too, it’ll be interesting to see how much the sequel ends up addressing the religious parallels that the film brought up as well, and where Scott and his creative team plan on taking this story next. There isn’t much word on how the events in the Prometheus films will affect Blomkamp’s Alien 5, which will pick up after James Cameron’s Aliens, but it sounds like fans are not only going to be seeing what happens after Aliens left off, but everything leading up to Alien as well. At least, that’s what it sounds like right now. Prometheus 2 is set to begin filming in 2016. Make sure to keep checking back for more updates — right here on GeekNation.

I enjoyed Prometheus & can’t wait for the sequel, & I really want to see where Blomkamp takes the Alien Franchise. I don’t see Blomkamp trying to kill it like Cameron almost did turning Aliens into an action movie!!!

Loved Prometheus and its another that was misunderstood by some simply by not paying attention. It’s quite profound in many ways and I welcome more….
