Robbie Amell Confirms Return to ‘The Flash’, Reveals Huge Character News

By January 4, 2016

Ever since the excellent Season 1 finale of The CW’s The Flash, Central City has been flooded with villains from the parallel universe of Earth-2. While this has caused many headaches for Barry Allen and his buddies, it’s allowed fans to see different versions of familiar characters. Most notably, it led to the return of Harrison Wells as an ally, at least for the time being. It’s been expected that the version of Caitlyn Snow/Killer Frost that was first spotted in last year’s finale was actually the Earth-2 counterpart of the one we know and adore, and now thanks to EW we know that this will be the case. But wait…there’s more. Because, you see, Killer Frost may be on her way to Earth-1, but she isn’t coming alone:

Uh oh.

That’s right, Robbie Amell will be returning to The Flash this season as the Earth-2 version of Ronnie Raymond, who we last saw sacrificing himself to save Central City. This new Ronnie, however, probably won’t be doing anything heroic.

“We are beyond excited to have Robbie back on The Flash,” executive producer Andrew Kreisberg tells EW. “You can’t keep a good Firestorm down. Only this time, he’s back with a twist, a deadly Earth-Two version of our beloved Ronnie in the form of Deathstorm.”

So good news for the fans to have Robbie Amell back, bad news for The Flash that now he has to face off against Killer Frost AND Deathstorm. Got it.

According to the EW article, the Earth-2 versions of Ronnie and Caitlyn are happily married, something fans had hoped the Earth-1 #SnowStorm would remain for a long time. But then, you know, Ronnie died. But now he’s back and totally evil. So that’s…actually pretty cool. The best part is the fact that the character here will be called Deathstorm. Comic book fans remember that incarnation of Ronnie as playing a big part in the incredible Green Lantern event Blackest Night. It’s obviously pretty unlikely that the Black Lantern Corps will be popping up on The CW any time soon, but we still might get a fun Easter egg or two. Both Arrow and The Flash have dropped several GL-related teases in the past, it would be fun to see them again. Plus the prospect of an evil Deathstorm and Killer Frost facing off against Flash and Firestorm is…well…all kinds of awesome. We aren’t sure which episode will feature Ronnie’s return, but we’re definitely looking forward to it.

The Flash returns with all new episodes on The CW starting Tuesday, January 19th at 8pm.
