Coming out later this very year is Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and along with it shall come rumors, arguments and wild speculation bordering on pure insanity. The following news from may be more in the speculation camp but is a far cry from un-believable.

Little has been learned at all about Rogue One other than the casting of Mads Mikkelsen (Casino Royale, Hannibal) and Felicity Jones (True Story, The Theory of Everything).  Given Mikkelsen’s excellent play on villains in previous movies many assumed he would most certaintly be of the darkness in Rogue One. He said himself in interviews however, he isn’t necessarily a bad guy. Making Star Wars gives good reason as to how this may be.

Remember, the site themselves says that while they’ve heard this from several different places, it’s still unverified:

Mads Mikkelsen (Galen appears to be his name in the film) is kind of the key to the film in a way. He is a scientist that took over the Geonosian Death Star project. He solved several of the flaws the Empire could not and is sort of a revered person in the Empire for his contributions. However, Mikkelsen’s character is a Robert Oppenheimer-type character. Oppenheimer helped design the atomic bomb only to say, “Now, I am become death, destroyer of worlds.” The guilt “Galen” feels for his contributions to the Empire become too much and he defects, attempting to make things right. In order to do this, he enlists the help of his only daughter….Felicity Jones’ character has to undo the devastation her family has unleashed onto the galaxy.

Makes sense, right? Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is Directed by Gareth Edwards (Godzilla, Monsters) and is slated for release this year. There was also a rumor yesterday that the first trailer would debut in front of Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War. Lightsabers crossed!

Do you guys think this is the way the film will actually play out? Stay tuned for official Rogue One updates when we finally get them here on GeekNation!
