Rumors Abound That ’10 Cloverfield Lane’ Wasn’t Actually Intended To Be A ‘Cloverfield’ Sequel

By January 17, 2016

That mystery box is starting to sound like a big fat box of lies!

Just kidding; well, hopefully. There are rumblings out there in movie fan land that are starting to make a guy feel uncomfortable. The other day, a mysterious trailer dropped out of nowhere claiming to be a sequel to Cloverfield. It showed John Goodman and two others in a bunker until something weird happens and the girl escapes, opens the bunker door and the words 10 Cloverfield Lane pop on the screen. We never saw what was beyond the door and we all hope and assume it was a giant freaking monster.

While were all praising producer JJ Abrams for keeping an entire movie a secret up until a few months before the release; many fans are starting to call foul and a post on Reddit says there’s trickery afoot.

The post makes the claim that the movie had two other names previously and they weren’t code names meant to keep a monster sequel a secret; they were for a different movie entirely.

This film was originally made under the names Valencia and The Cellar for Paramounts Insurge division(a subsidiary for films made for under 5 million dollars like The Devil Inside), and when Paramount closed it down, this movie(shot and completed) was thrown out to the wind and orphaned. Paramount bought it back up and had Dan Casey and Damien Chazelle do some re-writes so that it would connect to the Cloverfield universe and they went back and did reshoots and add-ons in March 2015 in New Orleans and L.A.

If correct this would mean that the studio took another movie, added some monster chatter to it and slapped Cloverfield in the title to grab some ticket cash. That means they probably didn’t create a gigantic monster for us to look at. That means there might not be a monster in this movie. That means I might get really, really angry.

The poster goes on to say they have read the script to the film when it was titled The Cellar (even offering the script for others to read, if they wish) and says there is no mention of a monster. They also go on to point out that the film has a very small VFX team making it even less likely we get a monster and that there are IMDB users claiming to have seen a screening of The Cellar, who again say there was no monster.

That is about enough of the no monster conversation. I’m getting upset. Do you think this is true, GeekNation? It would certainly make sense. Whatever we find out, we’ll be sure to keep you updated, right here on GeekNation. We also promise not to monster tease you.
