Sam Neill Joins ‘Thor: Ragnarok’

By September 25, 2016

One of my favorite movies of 2016 – in fact, my favorite movie of 2016 – has been Taika Waititi’s brilliant coming-of-age adventure Hunt for the Wilderpeople, featuring Jurassic Park star Sam Neill as a grizzled New Zealand bushman who befriends a troubled youth. Charming and hilarious, the film is an excellent showcase for the sort of relationship humor that Waititi does so well, and bodes very well for what we can expect from his next outing, Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok.

Now it seems like Ragnarok will be a reunion of sorts, as Neill recently confirmed his involvement with the upcoming sequel. Speaking to Shortlist, he said:

“I’m not really allowed to say this and I can’t tell you what it is… I did a couple of days on Thor just before I came over here. [I] had to sign all sorts of things. So if I say anything else, Marvel’s secret agents — and they are lethal — will come and get me and probably my children, as well.”

This will be Neill’s first foray into the world of comic book movies, but Waititi won’t be the only familiar face on the set. Thor: Ragnarok also features Neill’s Jurassic Park co-star Jeff Goldblum, who has been tapped to play The Grandmaster, but there’s no word on whether or not the two will be sharing any screen time.

With returning stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Idris Elba as Heimdall, Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner – not to mention new additions Cate Blanchett as Hela, Karl Urban as Skurge, and Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie – Thor: Ragnarok is currently in production and scheduled to hit theaters on November 3, 2017.
