NOTE: This article contains spoilers for the first season finale of “Star Wars Rebels.”
The voice cast of Disney XD’s animated series “Star Wars Rebels” is already led by late 90s star Freddie Prinze Jr., and another big name from that decade is joining him for the second season.
“Buffy the Vampire Slayer” series star Sarah Michelle Gellar, who also just happens to be the wife of Freddie Prinze Jr., will be taking a recurring role in the forthcoming second season of “Star Wars Rebels.” Executive producer and supervising director Dave Filoni made the announcement today following the first season’s finale last night, which ended with the arrival of Darth Vader.
There’s no word on just who Gellar will be playing, but since the second season will have the premiere episode screened at Star Wars Celebration in April, it’s no surprise that Gellar has already been hard at work recording for the show, as evidenced by this photo from the recording booth:
The rest of the regular voice cast includes Vanessa Marshall, Steve Blum, Tiya Sircar, Taylor Gray and David Oyelowo, and Filoni couldn’t be happier to have Gellar aboard the show now, saying, “We’re thrilled to have Sarah Michelle Gellar on board for season two. She is a true ‘Star Wars Rebels’ fan and her passion undoubtedly comes through in the voice recording sessions.”
Gellar and her husband Freddie Prinze Jr. have worked together several times before, including I Know What You Did Last Summer and the Scooby-Doo franchise, so this is a fun reunion. But, it’ll be interesting to see if they’re both on the side of the Rebel Alliance or if Gellar ends up taking a role on the other side. Of course, there’s also the chance that she falls somewhere in the middle as a bounty hunter or something like that.
We’re not sure what’s in store for the crew of the Ghost for the second season of the show, but since last night’s finale brought *SPOILER ALERT* regular “Clone Wars” character Ahsoka Tano back into the fray, along with other secret cells of the Rebel Alliance, there’s undoubtedly some big adventures in store. We still don’t know when the second season of “Star Wars Rebels” will begin airing, but stay tuned for more information.
