Even though he didn’t take home an Academy Award last month, Michael Keaton will still get another honor instead.
NBC has just announced that the star of the critical hit Birdman and 1989’s Batman will return to Studio 8H to host “Saturday Night Live” for a third time on April 4th with musical guest Carly Rae Jepsen. It’s been 23 years since Keaton hosted “SNL,” the last time being in November of 1992, and he was all the rage for his turn as the Caped Crusader.
Keaton has always had a great gift for comedy, and I can’t wait to see him get back on stage for some sketch comedy on “SNL.” Also, I’m wondering if there’s any chance that Taran Killam will get a chance to do his Michael Keaton impression during the show, because that could be fun.
In addition, fellow Oscar nominee Taraji P. Henson, who is getting rave reviews across the board for her turn on the breakout hit Fox drama series “Empire” will host for her first time on April 11th. Surely there will be another sketch parodying the music industry series in that episode, even though we just got one when Chris Hemsworth hosted.
Henson is mostly known for her dramatic work in films like Hustle & Flow and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, not to mention she was a series regular on “Person of Interest” for a few seasons. But she’s dabbled in comedy with roles in Date Night and Think Like a Man, so hopefully she’ll work out well on “SNL” for her first time. Henson will be joined by the folk rock group Mumford & Sons.
Don’t forget to come back for our review of this weekend’s forthcoming March 28th episode with The Rock!
