Shooting Dates for ‘Wonder Woman’ and ‘Justice League’ Are Revealed

By July 30, 2015

The DC Comics-based film universe is amping up pretty considerably, and work on a number of projects is already progressing for releases well into 2017 and beyond.

In a new report from Empire, its been revealed that shooting for Wonder Woman –starring Gal Gadot and Chris Pine — is scheduled to begin this fall. Meanwhile, the studio’s first major effort at a crossover superhero team-up film in Justice League will commence shooting the following spring. Wonder Woman is currently slated for release on June 23rd, 2017, while Justice League is scheduled to bow that November.

Empire has also detailed the amount of work going into several other productions at once. Their story reads, in part,

Logistically it is staggering. As Batman v Superman gains its coat of special effects, and the various stages of editing, scoring, grading and sound mixing are completed, [producer] Deborah Snyder, along with [producer Charles] Roven, is watching over a sandbox that stretches around the world. [Director Patty] Jenkins is in London prepping Wonder Woman, which will shoot there this autumn. Suicide Squad, already well underway in Toronto under the earthy gaze of [director David] Ayer, will shoot through to September. ‘I do watch the dailies,’ she promises, enthusing about the film’s ‘street quality.’ They are already doing soft prep for the Justice League, which will begin shooting in the spring, and overseeing the script for Aquaman, which James Wan will direct.

Justice League will be a two-part effort, with the second film slated to release in 2019. The hype machine is already being kicked up to a degree, since Warner Bros. released well-regarded trailers for both Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad earlier this month on the heels of Comic-Con International in San Diego. Patty Jenkins came aboard to direct Wonder Woman earlier this year after the abrupt departure of director Michelle MacLaren, while James Wan is coming off of this year’s highly successful Furious 7 to take on DC’s King of the Seven Seas, who will be played by actor Jason Momoa.

After the massive success of Marvel’s shared cinematic universe, it’s very exciting to see another one based on the characters and situations of DC Comics come to fruition. Fans have been waiting to see Batman and Superman share the same screen in an official live-action effort for a long time, and as a big fan of the DC Universe, it’s very thrilling to think that their first joint appearance will be ushering in an entirely new universe based on characters like the Flash, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, and Cyborg.
