With production on Marvel and Sony’s Spider-Man: Homecoming set to begin shortly, the film’s cast has been steadily coming together over the past few weeks with the additions of Michael Keaton as the movie’s main villain, rumored to be Adrian Toomes a.k.a. The Vulture, and more. The film has been rumored to be featuring more than one villain in addition to The Vulture though, and it looks like Homecoming has found its second foe for Tom Holland’s Peter Parker.
Variety is reporting that The Invitation and Prometheus star Logan Marshall-Green is in talks to join the movie in a reportedly “villainous” role, though no official details regarding the character’s identity were revealed. He joins the previously mentioned Keaton and Holland, in addition to Marisa Tomei as Aunt May, Tony Revolori, Zendaya, Laura Harrier, Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man and more.
Plot details on the movie are reportedly being kept under tight lock and key as well following the titular hero’s introduction into the Marvel Cinematic Universe earlier this year in Captain America: Civil War. So I doubt we’ll know who Marshall-Green is playing until exactly when Marvel and Sony want us too, though the possibilities are endless at this point.
I imagine that the studios will want to avoid redoing any of the characters already shown in the previous Spider-Man movies though, evidenced by the Vulture’s rumored inclusion, which could mean that Marshall-Green will be playing a villain who still hasn’t received the big screen treatment either. Personally, I’m still holding out hope for Kraven or Mysterio in a movie, though I’d prefer that they get a film all to themselves.
No matter who he ends up playing though, Marshall-Green has established himself as a reliable and talented actor over the past few years, and most recently demonstrated his skills in Karyn Kusama’s fantastic horror film, The Invitation. At this point though, it just seems like the Marvel movie casts are getting better and better and better with each new film.
Spider-Man: Homecoming is set to hit theatres on July 7th, 2017.
