Currently filming in Atlanta, GA, Spider-Man: Homecoming is shaping itself up to be one of Marvel’s best films to date. Coming out of a partnership between Sony and Marvel, the new film will be the first standalone Spider-Man movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, picking up with Tom Holland’s Peter Parker following his introduction in Captain America: Civil War, as he fights to try and find what his home truly is.
In addition to Holland, the film has amassed an incredible cast around him including Michael Keaton, Robert Downey Jr., Marisa Tomei, Donald Glover, Hannibal Buress, Martin Starr, Tony Revolori, Abraham Attah, Logan Marshall Green, and many more.
THR is reporting that following her breakout turn in The Nice Guys earlier this year as well, Australian actress Angourie Rice has joined the cast of the film as well, though like many of the other roles in the film, her character is currently being kept under wraps. She joins a number of other young stars already cast in the movie as well, in that same 14-19 age range, keeping in line with Kevin Feige and director Jon Watts’ comments about making the movie a true coming-of-age film.
While no details regarding Rice’s role are likely going to be revealed anytime soon, the movie is rumored to have a presence at San Diego Comic-Con this year, so it’s possible that some official announcements regarding the movie’s characters could be revealed then.
As far as I’m concerned though, this has already emerged as having, at the very least, one of the best ensemble casts of any comic book movie yet. Considering that Rice gave both Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe a run for their money as the star of the movie in The Nice Guys as well, one of the best films of 2016 so far, her addition to the movie’s cast continues its recent streak of A+ casting decisions. Now we’ll just have to wait and see how Peter Parker’s next onscreen outing does compared to his more recent standalone films.
Spider-Man: Homecoming is set to swing into theatres on July 7th, 2017, with one of the best casts of any superhero movie yet.
