‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ Could Introduce Nightwatch Potentially

By September 28, 2016

Judging by the characters that have already been announced and are known to be in the film, it’s sounding more and more like Marvel and Sony are planning on focusing their efforts to introduce as many classic, original Spider-Man characters as they can in Spider-Man: Homecoming next year, with characters like The Vulture, The Tinkerer, Shocker, Ned Leeds, and more.

Though, unlike some of Sony’s previous Spider-Man movie attempts, it doesn’t seem like Homecoming will suffer the same fate, in terms of overstuffing the character lineup. Now, it looks like another Spider-Man character could be appearing in the film as well, though it’s a much more obscure character than a majority of the others already announced.

Bleeding Cool is reporting that none other than Kevin Trench, a.k.a. Nightwatch could be appearing in Homecoming, with Sony employees furiously looking into and researching the character currently, with rumors saying that the character could be making his first live-action appearance sometime soon. He is, after all, one of the Spider-Man characters that Sony has control over, and while it’s possible the studio could be interested in making a solo movie surrounding the character, the report speculates that it’s most likely related to Homecoming.

For those of you that don’t know as well, Nightwatch has a pretty interesting origin actually as well, when Kevin Trench came across a dying man wearing the Nightwatch costume in an alleyway, only to realize that the man in the suit was an older version of himself from the future. Then, Trench takes on the mantle for himself, and fights to try and make sure he avoids that same fate.

Honestly, with that kind of story, Nightwatch could make for a really interesting, low-budget standalone superhero movie, and certainly seems like more logical than Sony’s planned Venom standalone, anyways. With that being said though, I don’t know for sure how much stock we’re putting into this rumor for known, due mostly to the obscure nature of the Nightwatch character, though if he does end up being introduced in Homecoming, we’d be more than interested in seeing what the future of Kevin Trench could be on the big screen after that.

Spider-Man: Homecoming is set to hit theatres on July 7th, 2017.
