‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ Set Images Reveal Our First Look at The Shocker

By September 5, 2016

Right now, while Michael Keaton’s Adrian Toomes/The Vulture is set to be the lead antagonist in next year’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, he won’t be the only classic Spidey villain appearing in the film. Orange is the New Black standout Michael Chernus as The Tinkerer has already been confirmed, with Fargo star Bokeem Woodbine also rumored to be playing none other than Shocker in the film, one of the key Spider-Man villains that has been long overdue for an onscreen adaptation.

Thanks to some brand new set photos from the film’s Atlanta production, it seems we may have just gotten our first look at Woodbine in costume as the character as well, suffice it to say, we’re not containing our excitement very well over here.

Posted by BackinTimemx on Instagram, the new images seem to reveal Woodbine on set of the film in a costume that looks like a fairly faithful twist on the Shocker’s costume from the comic books. Check out the images below:

While no official confirmation of Woodbine’s role in the film has been released yet, a leaked call sheet from several weeks ago seemed to possibly confirm that he would be playing Herman Schultz in Homecoming, a.k.a. The Shocker. This didn’t really surprise anybody either, since Woodbine had been rumored to be playing the character for several weeks before the call sheet surfaced online.

For those of you not familiar with the character as well, Schultz is a career criminal who uses his talents as both an engineer and inventor to create a pair of gauntlets that emit powerful seismic vibrations, making him one of Spider-Man’s more unique foes. The character wears a typically yellow quilt costume in the comics as well, and it looks like that iconic aesthetic will be carrying over into Spider-Man: Homecoming, and this costume for Shocker seems to fit in line fairly well with the film’s street-level look and tone so far.

Like most of Marvel’s comic-to-screen adaptations though, this looks like a nice twist on the character’s iconic look, while also managing to do it without losing the heart and soul of it along the way as well.

Spider-Man: Homecoming is set to hit theatres on July 7th, 2017.
