‘Spider-Man’ Reboot Casts Zendaya in Lead Role

By March 7, 2016

We still haven’t gotten our first glimpse of Tom Holland as the new Marvel Studios Spider-Man, and won’t until Captain America: Civil War hits theaters in May, but the cast for next year’s big reboot is slowly taking shape. Aside from Holland, we already know Marisa Tomei landed the role of Aunt May, and now we have another addition to the cast. According to Deadline, Zendaya will play a girl named Michelle in the film.

Zendaya is best known for her work on various Disney Channel shows like Shake it Up! and K.C. Undercover. She also appeared on an episode of Black-ish, and released a self-titled album in 2013. Honestly, I have no idea if this is a good casting or not because I haven’t seen anything she’s ever done aside from a commercial for, like, zit cream or something. But hey, good for her. Deadline’s article did not shed too much light on what her role as Michelle will entail, but they did not believe she would wind up as a love interest. Given that her character’s name is neither Mary Jane nor Gwen, that’s not very shocking news. So it will be interesting to see what sort of part this relative newcomer plays in what is sure to be one of the most highly scrutinized films to come out next year.

Spider-Man (or whatever they decide to call this film) is set for release on July 7, 2017.
