‘Star Wars: Episode VII’ Officially Begins Filming; Read Latest Casting Rumors

By May 16, 2014

As you may know, there’s a small, independent, low budget film coming up called Star Wars: Episode VII. There might be “The Ancient Fear” thrown in there somewhere, too, but that hasn’t been confirmed yet. There’s a cast in place, and a December 18th, 2015 release date, and now – finally – filming has begun. Bad Robot tweeted this photo from the first day of filming:

Even for fans of Star Wars who thought the prequel trilogy sucked, that’s an exciting image to behold. The future has so much promise. I’m sure everyone has their own perfect Star Wars sequel in their minds, and it’ll be interesting to see how Abrams and his team live up to expectations for what is most likely the most anticipated movie of all time. Meanwhile, back in rumor territory, the folks at Latino Review claim they know who the two additional female cast members are going to be: Katie Jarvis (Fish Tank) and Maisie Richardson-Sellers, an unknown Oxford graduate said to be hanging out around the Star Wars production lately. Are either of these confirmed? Absolutely not. Could they be true? Sure, it’s possible. I’m more inclined to believe Latino Review’s sources when it comes to Marvel stuff since their track record is much more solid when it comes to scooping Kevin Feige and those guys, but since Disney owns both Marvel and LucasFilm, there’s a chance that their sources are connected into both camps, so they may be onto something here.

I think a lot of people would be disappointed if Lupita Nyong’o wasn’t cast, considering that rumor has been going around for a while, but it would be cool to see a few more unknowns launched into stardom – much like Hamill, Fisher, and Ford were back in the day.
