‘Star Wars’ Line Flub Disproved by Luke Skywalker Himself

By October 13, 2015

When something like Star Wars has been around for decades and decades, there are bound to be legends and urban myths created about the films in the timespan. Whether it be treasured goofs like the Stormtrooper getting nearly taken out by a blast door in A New Hope, or any of the other trivia facts that fans have learned and cultivated in the year’s since its original 1977 theatrical release.

One of the biggest rumors that has been around for a while now has to do with actor Mark Hamill possibly breaking the fourth wall accidentally in A New Hope. Fans have long-suspected that when Luke returns from the Battle of Yavin and is joined by his friends and allies, he says, “Carrie” when he sees Carrie Fisher again, instead of referring to her as Leia.

Well, it looks like fans might have been wrong after all.

When a fan pointed out the mistake to Hamill personally on Twitter, the actor responded and may have once and for all, put the rumor to rest:

CaptureAccording to the actor, he actually says “There she” as in “There she is…” when he sees Leia again, with the dialogue in that scene being dubbed. So what does Mark Hamill think about everyone’s previous rumors? “Total BS”. Gotta love Twitter right? Finally gives actors like Hamill and co. the chance to publicly and quickly address things they might not have been able to before. Now if only Harrison Ford would get one, I can only imagine what that would be like.

Meanwhile, Hamill can next be seen as Luke Skywalker in Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens, which is set to hit theatres on December 18th.
