Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens is one of the most highly-anticipated films of all time. I’ve personally loved how J.J. Abrams, Kathleen Kennedy, and co. have marketed the film, making the movie not only one of the most exciting movies of the past few years, but also one of the most mysterious. We really don’t know all that much about the film other than its tone, and the characters in it – and I’ve been one of the fans who’s loved how hard Abrams in particular has worked to keep as much of the movie’s plot a secret as possible.
We’ve known since this year’s San Diego Comic-Con that one more official trailer for the movie would be released before the film’s premiere in December, and there’s been a lot of talk surrounding what it might reveal or show. Personally, I’ve been silently hoping that the trailer will be made of more of what we’ve already seen, and will keep the pattern of VO dialogue, and flashes of action. I don’t really want to see more from the movie, and as we get closer and closer to its official release – the more careful I’ve become about avoiding spoilers and details.
ESPN Caribbean has officially announced the debut of a new Force Awakens poster tomorrow (H/T Comicbook.com) and that there will also be another Force Awakens debut during ESPN’s broadcast of the Monday Night Football game between the Giants and the Eagles. The tweet has since been deleted, but it does play into the recent rumors that the new trailer would be coming sooner rather than later, and the trailer premiering during a football game should help to ensure a large number of moviegoers seeing it at the same time.
It looks like Lucasfilm and Disney might have some big plans for the coming months, and while I’ve been incredibly impressed by the movie’s marketing campaign so far, I’m also hoping that the studios don’t suddenly start overloading us with too many TV spots, posters, or clips. I still don’t really know much about the film’s official plot or timeline, and I’m going to do my damn best to keep it that way too.
Knowing how Abrams has worked on his past few films though, I trust that there won’t be too much information revealed anytime soon, and I think that he has a very, very specific plan in mind for how he’ll continue to keep the movie’s secret as close to his chest as possible.
Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens is set to hit theatres on December 18th!
