Sony No Longer Developing Steve Jobs Biopic

By | No Comments

After a troubled pre-production process equaling something next to a roller coaster ride, Sony Pictures has opted out of creating its planned biopic focusing on Apple co-founder Steve Jobs. The project, which had most recently attached director Danny Boyle from a script by Aaron Sorkin, was put into turnaround by the studio according to Variety, and Sony made no comment on their action.

Although Sorkin has stayed as the most consistent element of the project, Sony had a great deal of trouble in finding other talent to secure important spots in the production. Originally up to direct was David Fincher, who reportedly dropped out due to his inability to compromise with the studio. Danny Boyle then came aboard as director, with a group of several actors narrowed to the short list to play the late inventor. It looked as though Christian Bale had been cast coming out of that brief competition for the role, until it was confirmed that Bale had never actually signed on. Recent rumors suggested that Sony was eyeing Michael Fassbender to embody Jobs, which was the last solid bit of news on casting the lead before Sony’s ultimate decision came to light today.

Seth Rogen had also reportedly been cast to play the other Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, designer of the Apple I and Apple II computers.

The Variety piece makes brief mention of the possibility that Universal Pictures will ultimately pick up the film and resume production, but until then, the project will go into turnaround. For more on this project as it develops, be sure to keep an eye on GeekNation!
