‘The Alienist’ is a psychological thriller set in the Gilded Age of New York City in 1896, and focuses initially on a string of boy prostitute murders.
The Hateful Eight has remained one of the most talked about movies of the year, ever since it was first announced. Following some of the controversy surrounding director Quentin Tarantino recently too, the film looks like it will be on the radars of people who might not have known about the film either. Set to be reminiscent of the same contained nature of his first film, Reservoir Dogs, and the scope and tone of his more recent outings, The Hateful Eight looks like a movie that Quentin Tarantino was always going to make, and will hopefully be one of the better additions to his impressive filmography.
There’s been a lot of talk about the film’s look up until this point too, with Tarantino shooting the film with some massive 70mm cameras, and even going as far as creating two, separate cuts of the movie for the different, various formats that it will be projected in.
Turns out The Hateful Eight won’t just be Tarantino’s biggest film in terms of camera size either.
Deadline recently reported that the run time for Eight will be approximately 3 hours and 2 minutes, making this Tarantino’s longest film to date, after all of his movies have stayed within the 2 hour run time. This continues Tarantino’s recent trend as well, as all of his movies seem to have gotten progressively longer with each new outing, and just as a frame of reference, here is a list of his movies, with their run times:
- Reservoir Dogs: 1h 39m
- Kill Bill Volume 1: 1h 52m
- Death Proof: 2h 7m
- Kill Bill: Volume 2: 2h 18m
- Inglourious Basterds: 2h 33m
- Pulp Fiction: 2h 34m
- Jackie Brown: 2h 34m
- Django Unchained: 2h 45m
- The Hateful Eight: 3h 2m
This is somewhat surprising considering a majority of The Hateful Eight will be taking place in one, confined location. Taking into account the fact that a number of people complained about the length of Django Unchaineds run time too, Tarantino will have to be careful to make sure that the movie isn’t too long. There’s no denying that there is a large audience out there ready and willing to sit through a three hour Tarantino movie, but we’ll have to wait and see if the movie itself will warrant its length.
The Hateful Eight is set to hit theatres on December 25th.
