Tarantino Reportedly Set To Shoot ‘The Hateful Eight’ with Live Read Cast in November

By May 27, 2014

When the screenplay for Quentin Tarantino’s western The Hateful Eight leaked, the writer/director felt so betrayed, he announced that he wouldn’t be making the movie at all. Instead, he said he might publish it as a novel one day. Time seems to have healed his wound, though, because according to Showbiz 411, Tarantino is set to shoot the film this November, with the cast who participated in the Live Read reprising their roles in the movie.

While mentioning that he’d like to turn Django Unchained into a four hour miniseries, the auteur offered an update on this project saying that he’s still working on the screenplay, so he’s definitely working toward telling the story in one way or another. He also mentioned that maybe he’d “shoot it, publish it, do it on the stage — maybe I’ll do all three,” so there’s a chance that we could see a Hateful Eight novel written by Tarantino published in conjunction with the film’s release.

If Showbiz 411’s report is true (and with all of QT’s talk about getting this project off the ground, there’s little reason to doubt its veracity), that means shooting will begin in Wyoming this November with a cast that includes Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell, Walton Goggins, Amber Tamblyn, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen, James Remar, Bruce Dern, James Parks, Zoe Bell, Denis Menochet, and Dana Gourrier. The reactions I heard to the Live Read were terrific, and word that the ending was the weakest part of the script is actually good to hear, considering that’s the major area of concentration for the rewrites Tarantino is working on before cameras begin to roll.

If QT gets started in November, we can probably expect the movie to be released at the end of 2015. Just a few years ago, if you told movie nerds that a new Star Wars film and a new Tarantino movie would potentially be in theaters at the same time, their heads would explode. Now it looks like that might turn out to be true. Here’s hoping the rewriting process goes well and Tarantino crafts another home run screenplay with The Hateful Eight.
