Though the big game brought the usual big numbers and sports fans, the obvious winner of the night wasn’t just the Denver Broncos, it was Hollywood and their impressive line-up of big budget trailers from this years’ crop of blockbusters in waiting. With X-Men, Civil War, Jungle Book and Jason Bourne all making appearances, not wanting to be left out, and showing an impressive amount of new footage and characters, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows came in hot and got hard core fans very excited.
One character in particular stole the show – not because of the footage or things he (it) said, merely because it gave confirmation of his (its) part in the movie – that of the fan favorite character Krang. Also, is it a he, she or it? Anyways…
I tell you, out of all the “supposed” characters rumored to be making an appearance in the movie, none was more popular – or more heavily tweeted at me – than Krang. Noticeably, even in my circle of friends who are, naturally geeks – it was the appearance of Krang that brought an audible gasp of surprise – and applause. No matter how much they didn’t like the first movie, a lot of my friends did not, what everyone agreed upon, they wanted to see Krang.
The kid in me who played endlessly with these toys does have a smile. I’m also on record (and in a big minority) having stated that I thought the first movie remake was… all right. Wasn’t bad at all in my mind. It was enjoyable, popcorn fun. The movie was WAY better than all Transformers movies combined – in my humble opinion. And now, with the release of their second trailer for the movie’s sequel: Out of the Shadows – it looks like they are embracing the campiness of the characters and throwing them all out and on to the screen. Depending on your line of thinking when it comes to big-budget Hollywood movies of a popular IP, like TMNT, this could be a really good thing and a fun time in the theatres – or too much and overdone and messy, all over the place cinema. Like Transformers.
What do you think?
Funny gags, lot’s of action and lot’s of famous characters from the past – Krang, Casey Jones, BeBop and Rocksteady and Shredder are all present and accounted for – including the returning cast and the turtles.
Here’s the rest of the images released from the trailer – thanks to Collider for cataloguing.
As I said, this looks like a who’s who of famous TMNT characters so it’s either going to be a lot of fun or all over the place, disjointed. I’m leaning on the side of fun. Why not, right? I mean, the Turtles are having a meeting on an airplane – mid flight – WITH the promise of a showdown with Krang. What can go wrong, right?
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows comes to theatres this June 2nd, 2016.
