Even if your personal interests have little to do with actual football, the Super Bowl certainly offers other kinds of entertainment to get you to tune into the big game – especially when it comes to brand new commercials for beer, more beer, probably some more beer, and also highly anticipated film properties.
While the Super Bowl doesn’t kick off until Sunday, plenty of big commercials are already being teased around the web (which, considering the hefty price tag attached to most Super Bowl spots, does seem sort of strange), including a look at two big upcoming superhero films. Both The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Captain America: The Winter Soldier have debuted (albeit very small) teases and glimpses at their Super Bowl ads, so go ahead, see what you can glean from these two.
First up, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 gives us a look at what we can expect to see from this summer’s sequel. Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone are both back (and so are the predictable platitudes, like “this is bigger than you, Peter”), but now they’re joined by Jamie Foxx as Electro and Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn. It appears that Spidey will still be web-slinging, facing danger, and trying to keep Stone’s Gwen Stacy safe. Some things never change. The trailer does, however, make no bones about being half-finished; we’ll get to see the rest of it on Super Bowl Sunday.
In other superhero news, Captain America: The Winter Soldier has also issued its own Super Bowl tease – and this one is far shorter. This Marvel spot demands we “see all the action” during the actual trailer reveal on Sunday, which seems fair enough, as this quick-cut montage barely makes anything seem wholly recognizable. Cap (Chris Evans) is there, and also the Falcon (or, at the very least, Anthony Mackie’s back as the Falcon), along with Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow (doing lots of kicking). And, yup, that’s about as much as we can pull out of this sixteen-second teaser. The action of Captain America: The Winter Soldier picks up right after the close of The Avengers, so the film has plenty of material to mine – it just might not be present in this wee ad.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 opens on May 2, 2014. Captain America: The Winter Soldier hits theaters on April 4, 2014. The Super Bowl is, of course, on Sunday (we jest).
