‘The Dark Tower’ Adaptation Casts Its Jake Chambers

By March 10, 2016

After casting a majority of the film’s lead roles already, the film adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower has added yet another star to its cast, and in case you were wondering, this adaptation is just starting to sound better and better.

Variety is reporting that actor Tom Taylor has reportedly been cast as Jake Chambers in the film, a young boy who crosses paths with the story’s lead, Roland Deschain a.k.a. The Gunslinger, and follows the story of how he eventually becomes The Gunslinger’s protege. He joins an already stellar cast including Matthew McConaughey as the villainous Man in Black, Abbey Lee as the film’s female lead, and Idris Elba as Deschain.

Directed by Nicolaj Arcel, the film adaptation is written by Avika Goldsman and Jeff Pinkner, with the possibility of follow-up films and sequels to follow, though nothing has been officially announced as of yet. Considering King regards The Dark Tower series to be his magnum opus though, if the first installment does well, we could likely see more from the beloved, fictional world.

Taylor is relatively new to the entertainment industry, after playing a younger version of Sean Bean’s character in TNT’s Legends, and a role in the BBC’s Doctor Who. The report states that Taylor was chosen for the role from an international search of young actors.

Filming on the project is set to begin in several weeks, with an early 2017 release date in sights. Despite the risk that can come with adapting source material as highly-regarded and beloved as this too, it sounds like The Dark Tower has the potential to be one of the better film adaptations of a King novel. After all, casting Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey as your leads would normally be enough to make anyone excited for a project, let alone one as recognizable as this.

The Dark Tower film will hit theatres on January 13th, 2017.
