‘The Dark Tower’ Set Photos May Reveal a Surprising Location From the Books

Warning: This post will may contain spoilers for the film adaptation of The Dark Tower

Right now, The Dark Tower is setting itself up as the most promising film adaptation of anything by Stephen King in recent memory, and not just because it’s based on the series that King himself considers his magnum opus. So far, we’ve gotten our first looks at both Matthew McConaughey’s Man in Black and Idris Elba’s Roland Deschain/The Gunslinger on set of the film, but it looks like a surprising new location from the books will be included in the movie as well, that some fans may not be expecting.

This also comes after some recent set photos showing Elba’s Deschain having a NYC chat with Jake Chambers (Tom Taylor), which led many to wonder why and how exactly both Deschain and Chambers end up in New York City in the movie, especially considering it’s the first film in what we can assume is being set up to be a new franchise.

To add to those questions as well, two new set photos from The Dark Tower have surfaced online, depicting a very familiar, creepy house from the books that will probably send some of the series’ fans into a bit of a whirl upon first glance. Check them out below (H/T BMD):

Now, you’re all probably jumping to the same conclusion as us, which is that this creepy house is likely the same house on Dutch Hill that acts as a doorway for Jake Chambers into Mid-World, which in the series, doesn’t happen until book three.

Here’s where it should also be noted though, that both King himself and director Nikolaj Arcel have said that the movie will not be a straight-up adaptation of The Dark Tower series as some may expect, but is sounding more and more like an amalgamation of the story as a whole, we think at least. Exactly how far into the story and arc it gets is still unknown, but it looks like Jake Chamber’s gateway to Roland Deschain is going to play a part in the story after all, which could mean some big things for just how drastic of a reorganization of the novels this is going to end up being.

At the very least though, with less than a year to go until its theatrical release, I imagine we won’t have to wait much longer before some more official photos, footage, and news from the movie begin to surface online. Until then, feel free to speculate away in the meantime, Dark Tower fans.

The Dark Tower is set to hit theatres on February 17th, 2017.
