After directing both The Divergent Series: Insurgent and Allegiant back-to-back, director Robert Schwentke dropped out from the franchise’s final installment, Ascendant, a few weeks back due to the fact that you know, he was dealing with a near-dead level of exhaustion. Frankly, I can’t say I blame him either.

Now, THR is reporting that The Age of Adaline filmmaker, Lee Toland Krieger has officially stepped up to direct the final installment in the franchise, which is based on the young adult novel series of the same name by author Veronica Roth, which is set in a dystopian future where society is divided into factions assigned by their citizens’ personalities and psychologies.

After Divergent and Insurgent, Schwentke’s Allegiant is set for a release in just a few short weeks on March 18th as well, which is the third installment in the franchise and continues Tris’ (Shailene Woodley) journey through the dangerous society in which she lives.

Jeff Daniels joins the already star-studded cast in the upcoming film, which also includes Theo James, Ansel Elgort, Miles Teller, Octavia Spencer, Naomi Watts, and more.

The first two films in the franchise have grossed over $550 million at the global box office, and outside of the studio’s other two young adult franchises with The Hunger Games and Twilightare Lionsgate’s highest-grossing films in the domestic box office.

I didn’t really have much of an opinion about The Age of Adeline if I’m being honest, since I saw it and just kind of shrugged afterwards. But then again, that’s sort of been my reaction to all of the past Divergent films as well.

The Divergent Series: Ascendant is set to hit theaters on June 9th, 2017.
