Up until this point, Zoom (voiced by Tony Todd) has been on the outskirts of a lot of the drama and action that’s taken place in The Flash season 2. As the big bad of the season, he’s mainly worked from the shadows, sending meta-humans from the various different Earths into Barry’s (Grant Gustin) to try and kill him – making Zoom the only Speedster left in the Multiverse. His identity has remained secret up until this point as well, and most likely will for a majority of the season, but its clear that he’s a new kind of threat for Barry, that might end up being even more dangerous and capable than Eobard Thawne’s Reverse Flash.
However, the next episode of the season, titled “Enter Zoom” will be the first time viewers will get to see Barry interact with Zoom, and it doesn’t look like the S.T.A.R. labs crew’s plan will go quite as according to plan as they might hope.
The CW has officially released some new, clear images from next week’s episode too, giving us our very first look at Zoom standing still, without any of his blue lightning or blurred speed effects. The result too? An incredibly badass costume.
After taking an unusually long time getting back into its old rythymn, the last episode of The Flash worked on nearly every level, not only bringing the series back to its old, incredible ways, but putting the season back on track as well (read our full review here). The inclusion of Earth 2’s Harrison Wells (Tom Cavanagh) was obviously a major contributing factor to the episode’s quality too, as Cavanagh’s charisma and magnetic talent onscreen just helped to make the dynamic between all of the characters feel recharged again, after some of them had begun to feel tired in some of the earlier episodes.
The end of the last episode revealed that Zoom had kidnapped Wells’ daughter in Earth Two as well, becoming the leading motivation for the scientist to help Barry and his friends take down Zoom in the upcoming episode, and I think it’s safe to assume that he’ll play a large role in the continued battle between Zoom and Barry Allen throughout the rest of this season. Equipped with a whole lot of mystery and Tony Todd’s gloriously evil voice too, Zoom could be anyone at this point. There are of course a number of leading theories running around online right now, and I have my personal opinion on who Zoom could be, but I’m sure you do too – so make sure to let me know in the comments below, who you think Zoom could be, and if you think he’ll prove to be as strong of an antagonist as the Reverse Flash last season.
Here’s the official synopsis for “Enter Zoom” as well:
“BARRY COMES UP WITH A PLAN TO DEFEAT ZOOM — After recent events, Barry (Grant Gustin) decides it’s time to confront Zoom and comes up with a dangerous plan. Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) sides with Jay (guest star Teddy Sears) and deems it too dangerous for Barry to engage with the speed demon. However, Iris (Candice Patton) shows her support and brings forth a surprising ally. We see what Earth-2 Harrison Wells’ (Tom Cavanagh) life was like before coming through the breach.”
The Flash airs every Tuesday night on The CW.
