‘The Founder’ Poster Teases Michael Keaton’s McDonalds Biopic

By March 25, 2016

Almost no other actor of recent memory has been able to craft the same kind of career resurgence as Michael Keaton. After falling away into the unknown for years and years, the actor returned to the public concsiouness with one of his best performances in Birdman, only to then follow it up with another Oscar-winning film in last year’s Spotlight.

Now, the actor already has his sights set on yet another possible presence at the awards season next year with The Founder, a film about McDonald’s co-founder Ray Kroc, who teamed with Richard and Maurice “Mac” McDonald to launch one of the most successful and popular fast food chain restaurants in the world.

After receiving an early fall release date recently as well, the first official poster for the film has been revealed. Check it out below:

In addition to Keaton, the film will also star Laura Dern as Kroc’s long-neglected first wife, Nick Offerman, B.J. Novak, Patrick Wilson, Linda Cardellini, John Carroll Lynch, and more.

The film has been compared to both David Fincher’s The Social Network and Paul Thomas Anderson’s There Will Be Blood, which are in their own rights, sprawling accounts of one man’s rise to power and success, and the people that he leaves behind along the way. There’s no word on how ruthless of its depiction of Ray Kroc may end up being, but with those two comparisons and the poster’s somewhat scathing tagline, it’s easy to see the possible cynicism boiling underneath the surface here.

The Founder will be directed by John Lee Hancock as well, following his last two efforts with The Blind Side and Saving Mr. Banks, the latter of which is I believe still, one of the most interesting tellings of a Hollywood true story from the past few years. Considering how hopeful and optimistic his last few outings have been though, it will be interesting to see how he handles a film with a darker and more Fincher-esque tone. If one thing’s for sure, you can almost certainly expect to hear more about The Founder in the coming months.

The Founder will hit theatres on August 5th, 2016.
