(Warning: This post will contain possible spoilers for The Walking Dead season 6.)
Going into the latest season of AMC’s The Walking Dead, the question on every fans’ mind was when the series was planning on introducing Negan. The character is perhaps the most iconic and famous villain from the comic books, who totes around a barbed wire baseball bat named Lucille, killing anyone he chooses with it. His introduction featured Negan brutally beating in Glenn’s brains with Lucille, not only killing off one of the series’ most beloved original characters in one fell swoop, but also leaving an impression – he was not to be trifled with.
While fans’ answers were finally, partially answered with the casting of Jeffrey Dean Morgan as the character just a few weeks ago, not much is known still about when the character will finally be making his onscreen appearance, although most theories suggest he’ll show up for the first time in next year’s season 6 finale.
However, last night’s midseason finale of Dead ended with a small treat for fans of the series, revealing the first scene from next year’s back half of season 6, and it features Abraham (Michael Cudlitz), Daryl (Norman Reedus), and Sasha (Sonequa Martin) captured and stopped in the middle of the road by a group of gun-totting bikers, who plan on stealing all of their supplies. Who gets namedropped at the end of the clip too? Yup, you guessed it.

It looks like the latter half of this season is going to be heavily laying the groundwork for Negan’s introduction, and after some of the more recent events of the series, which have featured our heroes fending off walkers and the undead like they’re flies, it looks like the series is preparing them for their most menacing threat yet. Easily the most terrifying of all of The Walking Dead villains, and providing an interesting dynamic with Rick (Andrew Lincoln), Negan might be coming just in time for this series.
We still have to wait a few months before the return of The Walking Dead to our television screens, but this tease is more than enough to make us all ready for it to start again, and after years of anticipating his arrival – Negan is finally here, lying in wait around the fringes of the series, ready to make his debut.
The Walking Dead Season 6 will return to AMC on February 14th, 2016.
