After several small teasers and images for Fox’s upcoming revival of The X-Files have hinted at the miniseries’ overarching paranoia-filled story – a new teaser and poster have been released that finally shows fans some actual footage of the aliens and science-fiction heavy cases that they have come to know and love from the series. Featuring Agents Mulder (David Duchovny) and Scully (Gillian Anderson) as they investigate and encounter all kinds of strange happenings and occurences throughout the country, it looks like our favorite TV duo is back, and it doesn’t even feel like they’ve ever been gone.
You can find the official poster and trailer below, and after the previous ambiguous and mystery-ladden teasers over the past few weeks, this latest one might just be my favorite yet, combining the humor and drama of the series in some pretty ingenious ways.
Check them out:
Coming just in time for Halloween, this teaser gives us our first up close and personal glimpses at the “spooky” cases that Mulder and Scully will be investigating throughout the 6-episode run, as they also look to find answers to the story’s overarching narrative as well. After confirming returning cast memebers like William B. Davies’ Cigarette-smoking man, the Lone Gunmen, Annabeth Gish’s Agent Reyes, Mitch Pileggi’s Skinner, as well as new additions including Joel McHale, Robbie Amell, Kumail Nanjiani, and more too – it looks like the revival might just bring a little bit of both old and new for fans.
Judging by early reviews and reactions from the pilot too, it sounds like creator Chris Carter and the rest of his creative team have come back in style, making the long-awaited miniseries work despite its time gaps and possible formulaic structure. Duchovny and Anderson have been welcomed back with open arms of course, and the story is said to be more than enough for fans who have been waiting for more X-Files material over the years. For a series that began in the early 1990s as a zany sci-fi show too, coming back in 2016 with an even stronger fan backing than its ever had – that’s not too bad.
The X-Files Revival is set to premiere on Fox on Sunday, January 24th, 2016.
