It’s WonderCon weekend in downtown Los Angeles, and yesterday’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows panel was chock-full of turtle goodness. The sequel to 2014’s franchise reboot features the debuts of fan-favorite villains Rocksteady (Sheamus), Bebop (Gary Anthony Williams), and the alien Krang, not to mention the return of Shredder (now played by Brian Tee). On the heroes side, we’ll see Arrow star Stephen Amell don the hockey mask of Casey Jones and join forces with the turtles and April O’Neil (Megan Fox).
First up, we have a new TV spot for the film. Though we’ve already seen a lot of this footage in both the first trailer and Super Bowl spot, there’s still some new stuff to whet your appetite. Check it out!
Also revealed (c/o ScreenRant) were new one-sheet posters featuring Bebop and Rocksteady.
Looking good, boys.
Finally, the biggest news coming out of the panel was the revelation that SNL alum Fred Armisen would be providing the voice for alien warlord Krang. Producer Andrew Form (c/o Deadline) was very complimentary of the comedian’s performance:
Anyone who’s a fan of Krang will love what Fred is doing. It’s unbelievable.
Given what a goofy character Krang has been in his past animated and comic book appearances, Armisen should be a pretty perfect fit.
While the first film was met with mixed reviews from fans and critics alike, it still performed quite well at the box office, pulling in just under $200 million. Buzz surrounding the sequel suggests it could be more appealing to both long-time fans of the franchise and audiences in general. Considering how many elements from the cartoons and comics are being thrown into this film, it’s obvious Paramount is going all-out here. Hopefully it won’t suffer from overload in the way films like Spider-Man 3 or X-Men: The Last Stand did.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows opens on June 3rd.
