Tom Hardy Could Have a Secret Role in ‘Star Wars: Episode VIII’

By May 10, 2016

Let’s face it – everyone wants to be in one of the new Star Wars movies, and we’re not talking about just the fans either. After Daniel Craig was featured in a small, cameo role as a stormtrooper in one of The Force Awakens’ most pivotal scenes and Simon Pegg played a small, masked role in the opening act as well, it looks like fans can expect even more famous faces behind those stormtrooper helmets next time around as well.

Warning: Possible Episode VIII spoilers to follow!

Following the rumors that Prince Harry and Prince William will be featured in the film as cameos, Making Star Wars is reporting that director Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: Episode VIII will feature none other than Tom Hardy in a small, cameo role. The report states that Hardy will be playing a stormtrooper similar to Daniel Craig, who at one point in the film runs into Finn (John Boyega) and recognizes him as FN-2187.

Apparently, Hardy’s stormtrooper will approach Finn during a mission in the film, when Finn believes that he’s dead and has been caught. However, the stormtrooper recognizes Finn from their days at the academy and will apparently congratulate Finn on his promotion in becoming a Resistance infiltrator and spy, before letting Finn go.

Now, of course, none of this can be confirmed or will likely be confirmed any time before the movie itself comes out, however, the interaction itself sounds like a lot of fun. Right now, Hardy is prepping to shoot Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk in Northern France, which isn’t all that far away from Pinewood Studios, where Episode VIII is being filmed, so the possibility isn’t all that small either.

It’s impossible to know if this will be in the film or not, especially since this is the first we’ve ever even heard of Hardy’s relationship to the property or even director Rian Johnson. However, Johnson’s not one to turn down opportunities for Easter eggs and nods to fans it looks like, and even if this specific interaction doesn’t end up in the movie - I wouldn’t be surprised if Episode VIII has more than its fair share of cameos nonetheless.

Star Wars: Episode VIII is set to hit theatres on December 15th, 2017.
