Is anybody still torn about this remake?
With the help of Rekall Corporation, factory worker Douglas Quaid has decided to take a bit of a vacation from his life, and to do so, all he has to do is schedule an appointment. At Rekall, you can have memories implanted into your head as if they had actually occurred, so Douglas decides he’d like to be a secret agent. Naturally, things go awry, and he soon discovers that he in fact is a secret agent. While trying to figure out who he really is, and what side he’s fighting for, he finds he also might just be a key player in saving the world.
The film looks awesome and I’m pumped to see Colin Ferrell (who beat out both Michael Fassbender and Tom Hardy for the role) taking the reins in another action film. After the surprisingly very good Live Free Or Die Hard, I am very excited as well to see what both director Len Wiseman and writer Mark Bomback (who co-wrote with Kurt Wimmer and James Vanderbilt) do with the material at their disposal. With a supporting cast that includes Jessica Biel, Kate Beckinsale, Bill Nighy and Bryan Cranston, it looks like they are onto quite a good start.
After watching the original, shot by Paul Veerhoven as an Arnold Schwarzenegger vehicle, I do feel as though many of us were cheated on several levels and I think this version just might finally be able to wash away some of the taste of the former.
“Total Recall” is currently set to be released on August 3.
