Something tells me KING KONG AIN’T GOT CRAP ON ME!!! Wouldn’t hold the same gravitas.
Still yet, CBS (where they can’t say the dirtier version) has ordered a pilot episode of Training Day, based of course on the film of the same title. According to Deadline, they’re in talks to bring back Ethan Hawke as Jake Hoyt and now you have my attention. The two sides are reportedly trying to come to an agreement on how much the character would have to do with the show, which will feature a young, African american police officer named Kyle, assigned to befriend and take down a crooked Caucasian detective fifteen years after the events of the film.
The problem seems to be what role Hawke’s character would play. The network was interested in having him play the crooked Caucasian detective (which I hate; it would ruin the idealist, boy-scout character we fell in love with from the film) and thankfully he said no thanks. He was interested in playing the Deputy Chief who assigns Kyle the case, however the show was written for that to be a constant, primary role and Hawke was more interested in showing up from time to time in a re-occuring role, such as Bradley Cooper in the Limitless series. Unwilling to commit to more than that at this point has the two sides trying to figure things out, never the less the role is still marked for the Boyhood star. Someone should tell CBS that to protect the sheep you gotta catch the wolf, and it takes a wolf to catch a wolf. (wolf) I mean, this stuff’s chess it ain’t checkers.
See what I mean? I’m not sure how the show could possibly maintain it’s grittiness on a censored network like CBS. The continuation of Training Day featuring Ethan Hawke is a fascinating idea, this coming from someone who adores the film; but I can’t help but wish that HBO or even FX had picked the pilot up instead. At least the pilot will be directed by Antoine Fuqua himself and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. You have to control your smiles and cries.
How are you feeling about this TV show sequel, GeekNation? Would you rather Hawke take the bait or stay far away? Personally, I’d love a movie sequel but hey, nothings free in this world, Jake. Not even bullets. Stay tuned for more updates, right here on GeekNation!
