Production on Michael Bay’s Transformers: The Last Knight is already underway, with new details about the fifth installment in the tired franchise being released on a fairly consistent basis over the past few weeks. Following the reveal of a returning Megatron as the next film’s lead antagonist as well, it looks like The Last Knight has found its one great actor to populate its cast.

Similar to Stanley Tucci in Age of ExtinctionVariety is reporting that Sir Anthony Hopkins has officially joined the cast of The Last Knight, though no details regarding his character or his role in the film were revealed. He joins the already cast Mark Whalberg, who will be reprising his role from the previous film, as well as Josh Duhamel, Isabel Moner, Stephen Merchant, Jerrod Carmichael, and more.

As of right now, Whalberg is the only actor from Age of Extinction set to return in The Last Knight.

The Academy Award-winning Hopkins is no stranger to the blockbuster world by any means, after his work as Odin most recently in Marvel’s Thor films, with the actor also set to return in next year’s Thor: Ragnarok as well, which is shaping up to be a considerably more promising film than The Last Knight. Surprise, surprise.

Plot details for the film are being kept under lock and key at the moment, with currently nothing really known about the film’s plot or story. Speculation has been running around online though ever since the title’s reveal, about who The Last Knight in the film could be, and what exactly the strange purple eyes in each of the promotional teasers might mean. For right now though, it looks like the Transformers franchise has managed to wrangle yet another incredible actor for one of its probably mediocre films.

Transformers: The Last Knight is set to hit theatres on June 23rd, 2017.
