A few weeks ago, the official title for Michael Bay’s upcoming fifth installment in the Transformers franchise was revealed to be Transformers: The Last Knight, with a small teaser released that also featured the above image of Optimus Prime with strange purple eyes. With the film officially in production now, and following a strange teaser promoting an announcement coming today as well, the film’s main villain has been revealed.

In a new Twitter post, the creative team have revealed the film’s main antagonist to be none other than a resurrected Megatron, with a brand new redesign this time around as well, sporting purple eyes similar to Optimus Prime’s.

Check out the tweet below:

While the Twitter post keeps the character’s identity vague, the same teaser released on Michael Bay’s Instagram, confirmed it to be the iconic villain, who looks remarkably different to how he did in the previous Transformers films.

This doesn’t really shed much light on the who the film’s title might be referring to, though some people believe that “The Last Knight” could be in reference to ROM, another Hasbro property, who’s nickname is “The Space Knight” and is set to receive his own film franchise in the coming years. Is it possible he could receive an introduction in the new film? Honestly, I doubt it, and I still think the Last Knight title refers to Optimus Prime himself. At this point though, with over a year to go until the film’s release, it’s hard to predict anything about the sequel right now.

Transformers: The Last Knight is set to hit theatres on June 23rd, 2017.
