A couple of months ago, GeekNation followed the tumultuous production woes of Universal’s Steve Jobs biopic, written by Aaron Sorkin and to be directed by Danny Boyle. First starting life at Sony, a series of disagreements led to a change in director, there was difficulty in securing the right leading man, and ultimately Sony abandoned the project which saw it picked up by Universal. Now, we finally have a date at which we can expect to see the project hit theaters.

According to Variety, Universal started shooting the film last month in the Bay Area and Silicon Valley California, and have eyed October 9th, 2015 as the theatrical release date for the as-yet untitled film chronicling the life of the late Apple co-founder. Other confirmed cast members include previously discussed actors such as Seth Rogen (playing Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak) and Jeff Daniels (as former Apple CEO John Sculley), with the addition of actress Kate Winslet as Joanna Hoffman, a former marketing chief at Macintosh.

As we’ve previously detailed, the film is based on the best-selling biography of Jobs by author Walter Isaacson, and screenwriter Aaron Sorkin has stated that the film’s screenplay will be a combination effort consisting of elements of the book and his own research. It’s pretty clear that Universal is targeting the awards season with the October release, and will be the fourth 2015 film slotted for release on October 9th. The other efforts releasing that day include Kidnap, New Line’s reboot of National Lampoon’s Vacation simply titled Vacation, and the disaster drama film The Finest Hours starring Chris Pine.
