Despite the recent actions of everyone’s favorite Marvel villain Tom Hiddleston (aka Loki), the internet is still functioning. One would think, with the power he seems to wield over the Tumblr generation, that he’d have blown up the internet today. Wondering what the heck I’m talking about?
By now, it’s a pretty well known piece of trivia that Hiddleston and Chris Hemsworth both auditioned for the role of Thor before both became international superstars, but up until this point, we haven’t ever had a chance to see what Hiddleston looked like as the Norse god of thunder. A couple of animated .gifs have hit the web (via ScreenCrush) that feature the first look at Hiddleston’s take on Thor, and while we’re still waiting on the video to surface, these should be enough to get people talking for now:
He’s not nearly as jacked as Hemsworth, but it sure looks like he put everything he had into swinging Mjolnir around. It’s fun to think about what may have happened if Marvel liked his audition better, but I can pretty much guarantee Hiddleston wouldn’t be as beloved as he is now; Thor is such a boring character, and Loki is much more devious and fun. Hiddleston may have been disappointed at the time (I don’t know if he was or not, I’m just speculating), but he clearly ended up playing the better character.
And while we’re talking about Loki, one of the best moments in the otherwise iffy Thor: The Dark World was – SPOILER ALERT – a brief cameo by Chris Evans as Captain America. Loki’s walking down an Asgardian hallway with Thor, and to mock his brother, he takes the form of Cap and rattles off a few quick jokes. Empire has a clip of a deleted version of the scene, in which Loki dons Captain America’s uniform and Evans doesn’t appear at all. While it makes a certain amount of sense to see Hiddleston dressed up as Thor, it’s just plain weird to see him decked out as Captain America. Take a look for yourselves and let us know what you think in the comments.
