As part of Warner Bros.’ year-long celebration of the 75th anniversary of Batman, one of their most enduring and iconic characters, the studio commissioned artist/designer/producer/director Bruce Timm to create a new short film, and now that film is available for all to see. Timm, of course, was the co-creator of “Batman: The Animated Series,” which is unquestionably one of the best superhero-related properties in existence. Check out Timm’s new short below:

While this short appeared to be a sort of throwback to Batman’s past (the black and white style and Hugo Strange’s mad scientist were staples of an older era of filmmaking), we’re also going to see a look ahead to the Dark Knight’s future. On April 19th at WonderCon in Anaheim, Timm will participate in an all-star panel celebrating Batman’s 75th anniversary, where he’ll debut the second short film the studio commissioned. That one hails from Darwyn Cooke, and is expected to have elements of his “Batman Beyond” series in it.

And for Bat-fans in the Los Angeles area, I’d recommend stopping by the Paley Center to see an exhibit featuring some of Timm’s original artwork on display. Here’s a photo I took of his storyboards for the animated series’ opening sequence:
