When a 7-Year Old Wants Jedi to Be Able to Marry, Lucasfilm Responds

One of the most defining moments of the Star Wars saga is the fall of Anakin Skywalker, the chosen one destined to bring balance to the Force, to the dark side. In an effort to try and save his wife from death in childbirth, Anakin’s fear overtakes him so much that he chooses to put his faith in a blind rumor started by a manipulative fascist, and becomes one of the most terrifying forces of evil that the galaxy would ever know.

Maybe Anakin was just going about it the wrong way, though, or maybe if the Jedi didn’t strictly enforce a ban on marrying then things would’ve gone down differently. That was the thinking of seven year old Star Wars fan Collin Gilpatric, who sent a letter to George Lucas himself asking that Jedi be able to marry the ones that they love. See his letter below (click to enlarge).

Not too long afterward, Collin received a letter in the mail straight from Lucasfilm itself. They seemed charmed by the passion of the young fan, and Collin’s mother Peggy uploaded a video of the letter being received by her son to YouTube. See the video below.

It sounds like the Force is strong with you, and you are showing great wisdom by asking your question. When you find someone that you can connect to in a selfless way, then you are on the path of the light….with this goodness in your heart, you can be married.

Lucasfilm definitely recognizes the light in this young padawan, and it’s nice to see them acknowledge it. Maybe what happened with Anakin was a flash in the pan, and the future of the Jedi can be a little bit brighter for them in the future. Either way, this has got to be a pretty awesome moment in fan interaction, and shows that the Force is with an entirely new generation of Star Wars fans.
