Will.i.am’s “Reach For The Stars” To Debut On Mars Today

By August 28, 2012

Apparently Black Eyed Peas’ will.i.am has a thing for space that his latest track “Reach For The Stars” will debut today on Mars…

Yep, you heard me. MARS.

According to NASA’s press release, “Reach For The Stars” is about will.i.am’s passion for “science, technology and space exploration” and will beam down from the Mars rover (Curiousity) to the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena during an event to promote science education.

And before you ask, no, Curiosity does not have speakers BUT it will transmit the song via radio waves back to Earth…that’s kinda friggin’ awesome.

Apparently this isn’t the first time will.i.am’s teamed up with NASA and their rover; last year he teamed up with them for i.am.FIRST, a program that promotes education, science and technology along with Dean Kamen’s long running program, FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), AND last year on FOX News had joked he would indeed drop a track on Mars someday “to see if any intelligent life exists on the planet.”

Did I also mention he appeared on CNN on Election Day back in 2008 as a hologram? The dude may be kind of a hoser at times but there’s no denying he writes catchy tunes, is WAY into science and wants to share the awesome things that CAN and DO happen using science with kids and young adults everywhere.

If he wore a bowtie, he’d be Will.i.am. Nye The Black Science Guy…and I think I’d be okay with that.

“Reach for the Stars” will debut TODAY at 1 p.m. PST/4 p.m. EST.
