‘Wolverine 3′ Rumored to be Rated R

By February 16, 2016

Call it ‘The Deadpool Effect”.

After the Merc with the Mouth’s unprecedented success at the box office over the weekend, rumors immediately appeared about a potential X-Force movie that would also be rated R. I think we all agree that would be really cool. But wait! There’s more! In potentially even bigger and/or cooler news, there’s now a rumor floating around the interwebz of another Fox-produced comic book movie that would also receive an R rating. What film, you ask? Oh, nothing big. Just WOLVERINE 3!!!

According to an image from a brochure handed out at this past weekend’s New York Toy Fair that has been circulating through various social media and news outlets (like this one), the final film of Hugh Jackman’s iconic run as Wolverine is targeting an R rating. Check out the image below.

I mean…duh.

Aside from Deadpool, there aren’t really too many other Marvel characters that lend themselves to an R rating more than Wolverine. While he’s certainly kicked plenty of ass in his previous PG-13 outings, it would be great to see him really cut loose (pun sort of intended) for Jackman’s last hoorah. This is especially true if the rumors that this film could be based on the Old Man Logan story are accurate. I mean…DUH. It’s such a no-brainer. With these three films (plus the Deadpool sequel), Fox could establish itself as the home of the more adult comic book movies and really carve out a lucrative niche for themselves. Given enough time, we might even forget Fantastic Four ever happened.

Wolverine 3 is set for release on March 3, 2017.
