Wondercon Returns To Anaheim For 2013

By November 13, 2012

It’s officially official: you can once again go to Wondercon and Disneyland in the same day.

Due to renovations being done to San Francisco’s Moscone Center last year, Comic-Con International (presenters of San Diego Comic-Con and Wondercon) made the decision to move Wondercon 2012 to Anaheim in what many thought would be a one-off moment…until yesterday.

Comic-Con International confirmed that Wondercon would return to Anaheim once again and made an official statement on their website that reads as follows:

Basically, Moscone Center couldn’t give CCI the usual March weekend block for Wondercon and the block they DID offer coincided with another big gig…which means hotels were already marked up to $300 a night (or more).

To put this in perspective, what I would pay to travel and spend two days in an SF hotel for Wondercon 2013 (BEFORE incidentals) would be what I paid for my room at the Omni Gaslamp Quarter AND incidentals (including the $40-60 I would drop on some collectible) at San Diego Comic-Con 2012 for FIVE DAYS.

This was pretty much CCI’s thinking as well; they knew they couldn’t ask vendors, exhibitors and fans to pay that much before they even hit the showfloor…so Wondercon is OC bound once again.

I know I’m stoked because it means a mere 45-minute drive, but for those in No. California who viewed Wondercon as their SDCC alternative, they’re seemingly left in the lurch once again. But as CCI has stressed that they’ll try their hardest to return Wondercon to it’s San Francisco home, I’ll enjoy its close proximity for one more year.

Wondercon 2013 is March 29-31st (two weeks later than last year).
