‘Zombieland 2’ Set to Begin Filming This Summer (Apparently)

By April 27, 2016

After a failed Amazon original series and getting stuck in development hell for years on end, it looks like Zombieland 2 may finally be happening after all. No, for real this time.

Following a recent update from the film’s original screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, and the official logo reveal at this year’s CinemaCon in Las Vegas, the production start date on the highly-anticipated sequel may have just been revealed… even though none of the original actors have been confirmed for the sequel as of yet, apparently at least.

Several casting websites are reporting that filming on the sequel will begin in August of this year, and is apparently set to take place in Atlanta, Georgia. Remember to take all of this with a grain of salt for the time being, since this doesn’t necessarily come as confirmation of the film’s schedule or even went to expect to see the film hit theatres.

As of right now, the only people that we know are involved in the project come from an announcement back in 2014, when the sequel brought on screenwriter Dave Callaham was hired to pen the film’s screenplay, with director Ruben Fleischer apparently set to return at the helm as well.

It’s hard to know what the sequel might center around, or even which characters we can expect to see return from the 2009 original. Jesse Eisenberg has expressed his interest in returning, but he and the rest of the main cast members have gone on to have fairly prolific careers in the seven years since the original, with Emma Stone becoming one of the most sought-after actresses working today, and even Woody Harrelson gaining critical acclaim for True Detective.

So we still don’t really know when to expect more from Zombieland 2, or what exactly it will end up being, but it looks like we at least may have an idea of when the film could start filming. Following the 2009 breakout genre hit as well, which is still one of my favorite comedies, it seems like if it doesn’t happen now, it may never. So I guess, for the moment, just keep your eyes peeled for any more official confirmations. Until then, it looks like Zombieland 2 may be closer to actually happening after all… we think.

Zombieland 2 does not currently have a release date.
