2012’s “A-Babies Vs X-Babies” One-Shot Will Make You Say “AWWWWW!”

By May 2, 2014

The X-Babies were created back in 1988 when the villain Mojo made child clones of the X-Men and have gone through several changes over the years while there weren’t any A-Babies to speak of until Marvel’s adorably hilarious one-shot A-Babies Vs X-Babies.

Initially a variant cover for the Avengers Vs X-Men series, the internet nearly exploded with glee and soon writer Skottie Young’s sketch list requests at cons “turned from Deadpools and Wolverines to anything “baby.” So [Marvel talent relations manager] George Beliard (who was waiting for me to finish a sketch of Baby Cap) was talking to me at Boston Comic Con about how much everyone was loving the image. I just through it out randomly, ‘We should do a one-shot of this.’ He smiled and said ‘That would be awesome. I’ll run it up the flag pole.’ A few weeks later, we got the green.” *source

Teaming up with Japanese studio Gurihiru (aka artists Sasaki and Kawano), A-Babies Vs X-Babies opens with a young Steve Rogers saying “goodnight” to his team of Army bears (that slightly resemble the Howling Commandos) when he notices his fave bear, “Bucky Bear” has been stolen by his neighbor, Scotty Summers (Cyclops) – thus inciting Rogers to get into the CUTEST Captain America uniform I’ve ever seen and shout the rally cry: “AVENGERS ASSEMBLE!”

And while A-Babies assemble within seconds of the battle cry (my fave being Hulk’s), Cyclops has a little trouble getting his own crew together…

Then the battle royale begins for the one known as Bucky Bear on the corner of Fury Dr and Xavier Way!

(How many can you name?)

The battle’s hot and heavy with MANY explosions and in one instance, Baby Hulk throws Baby Wolverine into outer space where what could be my fave panel of the entire comic occurs…

Gotta love how nearly every Marvel character’s included in some kind of way – INCLUDING Guardians Of The Galaxy‘s Rocket Raccoon (AND what I’m guessing’s a nod to Spider-Pig from The Simpsons Movie)- but I’m not gonna tell you where; you need to find them yourself!

Not gonna tell you how it ends buuuut I WILL share this adorable panel that wasn’t a part of the comic!

Avengers Shwarma

I give this a 5 out of 5 for making me say “AWWWW!” and for making me laugh heartily.
