‘Agent Carter’ Cancelled by ABC

By May 12, 2016

Looks like Peggy’s trip out to the West Coast may have been the last one we’ll see from the character.

That’s right, as many had already assumed, the fan-favorite ABC series, Marvel’s Agent Carter has been cancelled by the network today, following low ratings in its second, though arguably better season. The series starred Hayley Atwell as the title character, originally seen in several of the Marvel films, as well as Dominic Cooper as Howard Stark occasionally, James D’Arcy as Edwin Jarvis, and more.

The network has also subsequently picked up Atwell’s new drama, Conviction, for series, which many fans saw as a possible sign of Agent Carter‘s growingly unsteady fate, though that didn’t stop many fans from hoping for a miracle, and even some of the show’s producers and creative team asking for possible fan intervention.

Following the character’s recent (SPOILER WARNING) death in Captain America: Civil War as well, it’s looking more and more like fans may have seen the last of Agent Peggy Carter onscreen, which is a bit of a bummer considering the character’s beloved status amongst the fan community. Though when you really think about it, the fact that Peggy, a seemingly supporting only character in Captain America: The First Avenger, became such an integral part of the MCU is a feat unto itself.

I guess that just goes to show what happens when you match the perfect actress with a perfect role, and you let the fans become attached to her. After two unapologetically fun and campy seasons, I guess it was only a matter of time before Agent Carter was finally laid to rest. Who knows though? It’s not unlike Marvel to bring back forgotten or dead characters onscreen again.
