‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ Will Have ‘Thor: The Dark World’ Crossover, May Also Connect to ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’

Agents of SHIELD - Orange Glow Promo

As the ABC series “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” has expanded the world of the Marvel universe – albeit with a much more modest budget and less stellar storytelling than its big screen counterparts – it’s now time for Phase Two of the cinematic universe to continue with Thor: The Dark World. But that film will also impact the TV series as well.

Much like the unstable Extremis technology was featured in the series premiere of the show, EW says the events of Thor: The Dark World will create something that echoes in “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” After the film arrives in theaters on November 8th (with some early shows on November 7th), the November 19th episode called “The Well” will pick up where the film left off.  Here’s the official description of the episode:

“In the aftermath of the events chronicled in the feature film Marvel’s Thor: The Dark World, Coulson and the “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” pick up the pieces–one of which threatens to destroy a member of the team.”

And if that’s not enough for nerds out there, “Star Trek: The Next Generation” star and occasional director Jonathan “Two Takes” Frakes is directing the episode (he previously directed an episode of Joss Whedon’s “Dollhouse” series).

There are numerous guest stars (though there are none from Marvel’s film world) including Peter MacNicol as Professor Elliot Randolph, Michael Graziadei as Jakob Nystrom, Erin Way as Petra Larsen, Toby Wilson as Neils, Alex Neustaedter as Maynard and Sylvia Brindis as Elena. So tune in November 19th for that.

Meanwhile, a rumor at ComicBook.com says that Captain America: The Winter Soldier will also tie into “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” That isn’t so surprising considering what we just learned about Thor: The Dark World affecting the series, but this one could be a bit more involved (and may possibly feature a cameo appearance from a character in that movie).

The season finale of Marvel’s TV series will happen shortly after the release of the April 2014 sequel, and considering how much trouble S.H.I.E.L.D. seems to get caught up in the first trailer for Captain America: The Winter Soldier, we wouldn’t be surprised if the film had huge ramifications on the series. We’ll have to wait and see.
