Alexandra Shipp Wants To Do a ‘Black Panther’ and Storm Crossover

By May 13, 2016

Yesterday, the news came that Lupita Nyong’o was in talks to join Marvel’s Black Panther standalone film, as a mystery love interest for Chadwick Boseman’s title character. While the possibilties for who she could be playing seemed endless, one of the biggest questions that the casting brought up amongst the fan community, was whether or not the films might ever address Black Panther’s relationship with Storm in the comics, since it is such a prominent and iconic coupling.

Well, I doubt that Marvel and Fox are planning on bringing together their Avengers and X-Men properties anytime soon if I’m being honest, even if it might be to the benefit of both. But it looks like one X-Men cast member in specific has expressed an intense interest in crossing over with Black Panther in the films.

While recently speaking on The Lowdown with Diana Madison, Alexandra Shipp (who plays Storm in X-Men: Apocalypse), commented on the possibility of a Black Panther/Storm crossover movie:

“I want that movie so bad.  I’ve got a pitch, I’m like coming up with a vision board, I want this movie to happen. Honestly it doesn’t have to be me – if Chadwick [Boseman] was like ‘you know what I really want to do this with Hallie’ I’d be like yo, that’s fine at least make the movie.”

Age-wise, Boseman being in a relationship with Berry’s version of the character would probably make the most sense, and also taking into the fact that Shipp is only playing Storm during the 1980s in Apocalypse. Honestly, I don’t really have much of an opinion on Shipp’s version of the character either, considering she has maybe ten lines in the entire film. She certainly looks the part though, I’ll give her that.

At this point, I doubt a Black Panther and Storm crossover would be at the top of Marvel and Fox’s checklist, even if they were having conversations about combining the two onscreen universes. But it’s an interesting thought nonetheless, and after Boseman’s fierce introduction in Captain America: Civil War – I’m looking forward to seeing which female character they bring on to hold their own against his already powerful character.

X-Men: Apocalypse is set to hit theatres on May 27th, while Black Panther will be released on February 2nd, 2018.
