‘Arrow’ Season 4 Image Reveals Diggle’s New Costume

By September 4, 2015

Fans of the CW’s hit show, Arrow, have gotten to see the characters and the show itself evolve continuously throughout the past three seasons. Whether it be the characters themselves growing and learning through their experiences, or the show’s original half-present/half-flashback storytelling structure.  While some have complained that the show has maybe changed too much, and others have complained that it hasn’t changed enough, there’s no denying the confidence that the writers have shown through these changes, and how much they are willing to drastically shake things up in new and exciting ways.

However, one thing that has always bugged fans about the show is that if Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) and the rest of his group are going out to fight crime, and he has a costume, the Black Canary (Caity Lotz/Katie Cassidy) has a costume, or even Roy Harper (Colton Haynes) and Thea Queen (Willa Holland) have outfits – why does John Diggle (David Ramsey) still fight crime without any kind of way to hide his identity? While some fans have been able to make the jump in logic, others have just found themselves annoyed every time they see Diggle fighting crime in a leather jacket, without any mask on.

Well, the showrunners did promise that Diggle would finally be getting a costume during the show’s upcoming fourth season, and it looks like they were telling the truth after all. The first official photo of the character in his new crime fighting outfit has been released, and it’s likely to divide a lot of Arrow fans out there. Check it out below:

Diggle Arrow Season 4 Featured ImageI won’t lie, that helmet does have a big resemblance to Magneto’s in both the films and the comics. Now, that’s not necessarily a bad thing, just something that I think a lot, and I mean a lot of fans are probably going to point out when they see this image, and it’s a fair point in their defense, but at least the helmet still looks cool right? The rest of the outfit looks like it features some kind of special leather jacket, and what could be some more layers of armor (or just normal clothes, I can’t tell for sure) underneath, so at least we know we won’t always have to worry about Diggle getting shot in the head every time he goes to help Team Arrow fight some crime.

The fourth season of Arrow has a lot of ground to make up for following it’s disappointing third season. What initially seemed to be an ambitious and daring new season of the show, ended up being a collection of over twenty episodes that created an uneven and often cheesy story arc for nearly all of its characters. However, it is comforting to see the showrunners listening to the fans both in giving Diggle a costume, as well as the rumored improvements to the writing of Oliver and Felicity’s relationship, and hopefully in a few more ways as well. Now, it looks like all fans can do is sit and hope that this new season will be a return-to-form for what was, at the time, a revolutionary new take on the superhero series, but now must find a way to stand out amongst its impressive competition.

Season 4 of Arrow is set to premiere on the CW on Wednesday, October 7th.
