Ben Affleck Gets Creepy in First Trailer for ‘The Accountant’

By May 13, 2016

There’s something incredibly unsettling going on in this first trailer for The Accountant, which finds Ben Affleck portraying a mathematical genius that happens to be a little bit… different. And when I say different, I’m talking about something along the lines of Dexter – but instead of a blood spatter analyst, Christian Wolff (Affleck) handles the bookkeeping for some big-time bad guys.

With advanced cognitive skills and an obsessive personality, there’s a major question about whether or not Wolff can manage to live a normal life. But that all depends on your definition of normal, and this trailer makes it clear that Wolff’s point of view probably doesn’t line up with the general consensus – that stockpile of heavy artillery is kind of a major red flag.

Seriously, is anyone else as creeped out as I am by this footage? Maybe it’s because Affleck is at the center of everything that’s going on, and yet he never utters a single word. It makes my skin crawl, but in the best possible way.

Gavin O’Conner, who directed the criminally underrated MMA drama Warrior, is behind the camera for The Accountant, with a screenplay from Bill Dubuque (The Judge), and an impressive supporting cast that includes Anna Kendrick, J.K. Simmons, Jon Bernthal, Jean Smart, Jeffrey Tambor, and John Lithgow. Consider this one to be officially on my radar – and with a limited release in September before going wide on October 14, it may be poised to attract some attention during awards season.
