‘Blade Runner 2’ Adds Mackenzie Davis to Its Already Impressive Cast

By June 8, 2016

At this point, director Denis Villeneuve is one of the most reliable and consistently great directors working in the industry today, following his recent streak of astounding films like Prisoners, Enemy, and Sicario. While the director is set to keep his one-movie-a-year pattern alive as well this year with the Amy Adams-led Story of Your Life, he’s already begun work on the highly-anticipated Blade Runner 2.

Starring a returning Harrison Ford, Ryan Gosling, Dave Bautista, Robin Wright, and more too, the film has been slowly shaping up to be on paper at least, a worthy sequel to the beloved 1982 sci-fi film from director Ridley Scott, which is often praised as being one of the greatest films ever made.

THR is reporting that The Martian star, Mackenzie Davis, is joining the film in an undisclosed role now as well, who after several years of making a name for herself in the indie world and the TV scene with her show, Halt & Catch Fire, has begun to venture more frequently into the more mainstream and blockbuster realms. The film is set to begin production next month, and Davis’ casting seems to be one of the final additions to the project’s stellar onscreen ensemble.

The story for the sequel is still being kept under heavy lock and key as well, but will be based off a screenplay written by Hampton Fancher and Michael Green, set several decades after the events of the first film.

Davis has slowly emerged as one of the most interesting actresses of her generation in my eyes over the past few years, and her addition to the cast of Blade Runner 2 just continues to solidify not only the film’s high-caliber onscreen talent, but also the intriguing and unique ensemble that has been formed for it as well. I’ll see anything that Villeneuve has involvement in at this point though, and the fact that his next project is a sequel to one of the best movies ever made, just makes this all that more exciting of a film.

Blade Runner 2 is set to hit theatres on October 6th, 2017.
