Bradley Cooper Rides in to Produce Lance Armstrong Biopic

By August 16, 2013

Remember when cyclist and cancer survivor Lance Armstrong won the Tour de France a record seven times, only to be stripped of those titles once he (finally) admitted he was doping?

Now we’re getting not just one, but THREE movies about that very subject.

Deadline reports Oscar nominee Bradley Cooper (Silver Linings Playbook) is in talks with Warner Bros. to join the upcoming project Red Blooded American as a producer and possibly as one of the film’s lead roles…which would be either Armstrong or Armstrong’s U.S. Postal Service cycling teammate and whistleblower, Tyler Hamilton (below).

While Red Blooded American will be directed by Jay Roach (Austin Powers franchise, “Game Change”), that’s not the only Lance Armstrong in the works; word is Paramount and Bad Robot (JJ Abrams and Bryan Burk’s company) are working on a film based on Juliet Macur’s book Cycle Of Lies: The Fall Of Lance Armstrong and rumor is Abrams approached Bradley Cooper to play Armstrong once the cyclist admitted he cheated to Oprah Winfrey back in January of this year.

The third project in the works is the one I think I’m most curious about. It will come from Working Title with a script penned by John Hodge (Trainspotting), be directed by Stephen Frears (High Fidelity, The Queen), and star Ben Foster (X-Men: The Last Stand, The Mechanic) as Armstrong.

These are all interesting casting choices but I see guys like Cooper and Foster in the Tyler Hamilton role and someone like (now hear me out) Matthew McConaughey (below) in the Armstrong role; it’s not like the guy wasn’t in a total and public bromance with Armstrong for ages…seems like he’d know him better than anyone else.

Not to mention they’re practically the same build and look a LOT alike.

The question is…do we really NEED three movies about Lance Armstrong? We’re guessing one or two of these will never cross the finish line, but which version would you like to see the most? Sound off below and let us know!
